Serenity Embers

bastard bottle

make me faint with love

given to my lips,

sat on moss strewn porch

the night might wound me

but i was resilient,

you could feed me dry bread

and i would not complain,

the heart a broad domain

contained many living things

twitching, writhing

a seething pit,

beneath star carcasses

glitter gone

black blanket stretched,

every day an island

on prevailing seas,

you and candles had burned

the flame extinguish

of my own doing,

you passed as dahlias and lillies

and i watched,

no restraining touch

or words,

tasting the mysterious all

no pleasure returned

only maladies,

coughing, returning kisses

i spat upon the ground

bile spittle,

no reflection of angels in that,

and remained in that distant

  1. Sounds like a rough night. It reads really sharp like broken bits of the glass bottle in the first line.

  2. ManicDdaily says:

Very effective imagery and line breaks here. Also a kind of mystery of despair that is very universal but has a particular personal feel that makes it more powerful. k .

  3. brian miller says:

some pretty cool phrasing…star carcasses…love your honesty and reality in this…a story i know….

  4. Claudia says:

dang…tight write…no reflection of angels in that…true…the night might wound me
but i was resilient… there’s much vulnerability in this..
