Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I first came to John Fante through the novels of his son Dan, most notably and brutally “chump change”. Dan writes like Bukowski with knuckledusters . John, in the Bandini books has a direct honesty in his writing the Hemingway could only dream about. My bookshelves would be the poorer without either of these guys
